OVERVIEW OF CENTURION RAS LTD (UK)

HEFAT©**Courses – (Hostile Environments & Emergency First Aid Training)**

Centurion has been established in the field of Hostile Environments and Emergency First Aid Training (known worldwide as HEFAT) since 1995, when the Managing Director and Founder, Paul Rees, who originated the whole concept of Hostile Environments Training, was at that time still serving as a member of the Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Commandos Special Forces (UK). He was approached originally to devise a 1-day pilot training programme for a major media organisation's staff heading to volatile areas, which is now the worldwide known - 4 day HEFAT course.

The HEFAT (Hostile Environments & Emergency First Aid Training) course, proved on numerous occasions that its training methods actually did save lives in the conflicts that were happening at that time, and since then there has been a dramatic shift in attitudes towards the provision of training for journalists and media teams worldwide.

Hostile Environment Training is now a recognised safety tool and part of the organisations worldwide, and to mention a few organisations Centurion has trained in the past and present include; Global Witness, Reuters, Associated Press, International Alert, Al Jazeera, ITN, SPANA,The Wall Street Journal, Refugee Action, BSkyB, the New York Times, Christian Aid, Mirror Group, Washington Times, Bible Society, WDR, Asahi Shimbun, Womankind, Stars & Stripes, Agence French Presse, Rainforest UK, CBS News, World Vision, Oil Corporations and Companies worldwide etc.

Centurion has built up a healthy client base due to it's first class reputation, and there have been may organisations that copy their name and their courses. Centurion is privately owned and based in the UK. Over the years Centurion’s Hostile Environment training has continued to evolve to take into account world news events and new safety threats. Adapting the training continues to be an evolving process. For most organisations, the ‘ideal’ format for the course, in terms of subjects covered and duration, is 4 days long and fully residential.

Centurion has since '97 offered either a 2 day or 3 day HEFAT course at the clients location anywhere in the world and this is very popular when budgets are essential.

Centurion’s staff have extensive training, service career, expertise and actual ‘hands on’ in times of hostilities both in the military as well in civilian life. Our instructors have spent many, many months on deployment with assorted media and NGO / Aid Agency organisations in such places as Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, Aceh, Gaza, Indonesia, Japan, Angola, Libya, Columbia, Ukraine, Russia etc. Also deployed to the natural disaster areas such as Hurricane Katrina with our various clients to advise them on site, in regards to safety, health & hygiene and general awareness.

Centurion also originated and set up the safety training for the Olympics, Winter Olympics, the World Cup safety training in Brazil, Crisis Management courses and Biological & Chemical Warfare Courses,

Because of our reputation for quality and high standards in the industry, Centurion was invited to become a founder member and is on the Executive Committee of the British Association of Private Security Companies (B.A.P.S.C.), launched in 2006 in the House of Lords in London which sets the benchmark standards for training and security work for security companies operating both within the British Isles and overseas. We also hold various civilian teaching qualifications such as FOFATO, CPD, BAPSE, NEBOSH etc

We also hold numerous accredited teaching skills both in our generic training and the first aid elements.

Since Centurion set up the HEFAT courses there have been a number of other organisations / companies who have tried to follow suit, using similar terminology such as HEAT / HET / HESAT and similar company names etc. We at Centurion RAS Ltd believe that Hostile Environment courses MUST be a combination of theory and practical and not conducted 'on line' or as a 'tick test' just to save money. Otherwise - why not buy a book on Safer Travel for example, give it to your staff,..hopeffuly they will read it then they deploy to a hostile environment hoping nothing will go wrong while they are deployed.
